 Local History Group

The Local History Group has recently been re‑formed and is open to anyone with an interest in the history of Syston, the Wreake Valley, and the wider county of Leicestershire. You don’t need any specialist knowledge — just curiosity and a willingness to explore the stories of the places around us.

We take a flexible approach to our meetings. Sessions may include short talks from members, guest speakers (free wherever possible), and outings to places of local interest. Some members enjoy researching a topic to share with the group, but there is absolutely no expectation or pressure to present unless you want to.

To help the group settle in, the organiser will lead the first few sessions while future contributions are arranged. A list of potential topics has been circulated, and members are welcome to suggest ideas or offer a piece at any time. We aim to keep the group friendly, inclusive, and accessible, with plenty of room for discussion and shared memories.

Meetings take place on the last Thursday of each month, 2.30–4.00pm, in the Jubilee Room at Syston Community Centre. More members are very welcome.
